If These Walls Could Talk. Calling all young storytellers!

Put your own spin on 5,000 years of history

Historic Environment Scotland, Scottish Book Trust and the Scottish Storytelling Forum have just launched an exciting competition called ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ in search of young storytellers across Scotland, aged between eight and twelve, to share a tale featuring a Historic Scotland site.

Young creators can submit a written tale (150 to 300 words) or a storytelling video (two minutes long) – in English or Gaelic - by Friday 24th June and will be entered into a competition with a range of great prizes up for grabs!

The competition is part of the Year of Stories 2022 with entrants asked to use any Historic Scotland site – from Edinburgh Castle to Fort George – as their inspiration to tell their tale.

By just submitting their story, they have the chance to win prizes ranging from a Historic Scotland family membership for one year; a Historic Scotland 7-day family explorer pass; book bundles and writing kits; a signed set of Cressida Cowell ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ books; a one-hour storytelling session for a school or library; and tickets for the Storytelling Festival in October for a school class.

A showreel featuring some of the most inspiring entries will be created and shared over HES’s social media channels and website as part of the Year of Stories 2022.

If you’re creative side is interested in entering, you can find out more and enter the competition at http://hes.scot/these-walls
