East Cambusmoon Holiday Cottages Awarded Gold for Green Tourism

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the world’s most credible sustainable tourism programme and each member is visited individually and assessed across 120 criteria to ensure they are meeting the highest standards.

Love Loch Lomond business members Deborah & Steve Macken of East Cambusmoon Holiday Cottages in Gartocharn, Loch Lomond, are absolutely thrilled to learn they’ve been awarded the GTBS’s highest graded Gold Award at their first assessment: this is given to businesses who are outstanding and inspirational and where the highest standards of sustainability are being achieved with a strong and broad ethos and excellent examples of good practice throughout their business.

Renewable energy technologies were employed in the renovation of two derelict farm buildings set in the open countryside of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park including a ground source heat pump, solar PV and solar thermal, mechanical heat recovery as well as very high levels of insulation and air tightness.

The two Loch Lomond holiday cottages can sleep from 2 to 12 people and are guaranteed to be warm 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, which is ideal for winter and Spring breaks. Guests can enjoy the great views from every window and all the activities of the great outdoors safe in the knowledge they are going to enjoy a warm, comfortable cottage for their short break or holiday in a sustainable, environmentally considerate way.

Deborah & Steve are very keen to promote that green tourism can be luxurious and their holiday accommodation certainly proves that with spacious and stylish accommodation, beautifully presented and well equipped throughout.

Aside from the renovation of the cottages they are working hard on improving local biodiversity with tree and hedge planting, creating bee and insect friendly gardens, growing fruit and vegetables which guests can enjoy along with the eggs from the hens which potter about the cottages.

Assessments are carried out by the Green Tourism Business Scheme annually, so customers and guests can be sure that standards are maintained.
